TEXAS NAACP HAITI PRESS RELEASE

The Texas NAACP strongly opposes our government’s handling of the Haitian Refugees who have come to our nation horrific. We demand that the deportation of Haitian Refugees cease and desist, that they be treated fairly and humanely and that governmental entities cease and desist from any discriminatory behavior in handling the crisis. We join Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s request for a full investigation and have a written Congressional Black Caucus Chair Joyce Beatty, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, Congresswoman Jackson Lee, Alexander Green, Congressman Marc Veasey and Congressman Colin Allred asking that they work to ensure that a diligent and thorough independent investigation take place.

We are mindful of the needs of these refugees and are committed to undertake a campaign to encourage public support for them by providing resources directed to their benefit to the current humanitarian agencies there on the ground.
