We have had more than 240 mass shootings this year.
Senator Ted Cruz and Senator John Cornyn,
The NAACP is a non-partisan organization. However, we do understand the power of political parties to pass meaningful laws to improve the well-being of our citizens. The safety of all people, particularly our children and senior citizens, should not be a partisan issue. Protecting our children, seniors and churchgoers should always be more important than protecting our guns.
The time has come for the Senate to get on the right side of history. The time has come for the Senate to protect the lives of children, senior citizens, churchgoers, health care workers, and all Americans.
There are four things you, as the United States Senator, can do today:
1. Help pass common-sense gun reform measures at the national level
2. Help ban military-style semi-automatic assault guns and high-capacity ammunition clips
3. Help pass required universal background checks for gun sales and transfers nationwide
4. And help repeal state “stand your ground” laws, restoring the use of deadly force only as a last resort across the U.S.
If your work in the Senate is not part of the solution, your inaction is part of the problem.
