Oscar award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o surprised 40 NAACP youth members with $10,000 scholarships each during the ACT-SO award ceremony at the NAACP 113th Convention. The “Write Her Future” Scholarship was established through a partnership between the NAACP and with Lancôme with a focus on empowering women through literacy, education, mentoring and entrepreneurship opportunities.
One of those 40 students was our very own Sydney Jackson. She is the young lady in the rose-colored satin dress with a bright smile.
Jackson grew up on the east side of San Antonio and has been active in NAACP-San Antonio ACT-SO. She has been accepted to over 20 universities, won 10 scholarships from organizations and pageants, and won numerous grants towards her education. Moving forward, she will pursue studies in STEM and cybersecurity.
“Everyone has a story, and as long as you put in the work, your story is valuable, no matter who you are or where you come from” – Sydney Jackson
