Civil Rights. The San Antonio Branch NAACP is sponsoring the 73rd Freedom Fund Dinner on Friday, October 27, 2023, University of the Incarnate Word’s McCombs Center Rosenberg Skyroom, 847 East Hildebrand, at 7:00 p.m. The keynote speaker is Mr. Leon Russell, Chairman for the National NAACP Board of Directors. Economic Development. Store-Front Grant Applications. Matching grant program for up to $10,000 for façade improvement (visible from street view). Education. The men of Psi Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity are sponsoring “Que-Cuts” which provides free haircuts for school age children in Grades K-12 at Williams Barber College, 520 South W.W. Education. Affordable Connectivity Program. Benefits: Service discount up to $30 monthly. Device discount up to $100 monthly for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer with a co-payment of more than $10 but less than $50. Only one monthly service discount and one device discount allowed per household. Eligibility is determined by participation in any of the following programs: SNAP, Medicaid, Federal Public Housing Assistance, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), WIC, Veterans Pension or Survivor Benefits. Health. CPS Energy’s Critical Care Program provides qualified customers additional time to pay their bills if they or a dependent living in their home, require electric-powered medical equipment to sustain life or electric heating or cooling to prevent impairment of a major life function. In order to be eligible, the applicant must provide confirmation from the patient’s attending physician that medical equipment used by the patient is required at the applicant’s residence. The applicant must provide a renewed application from the attending physician every 24 months to continue participation in the program if the patient requires electric service for a period longer than the initial 24 months. The application must be faxed from the physician’s office to CPS Energy.

The Bexar County Elections Department offers 3 options to become a Deputy Registrar: 1) Virtual Training via Zoom meeting, 2) On-Line Training, and 3) In-Person Training.
