DR. GREGORY HUDSPETH

Dr. Gregory Hudspeth is a retired Associate Professor of Political Science at St. Philip’s College in San Antonio, Texas. In May 2019, Dr. Hudspeth was selected by the Piper Foundation as one of the top-ten professors in the State of Texas. He earned his BA in Government from Huston-Tillotson College in Austin, Texas, his MA in Political Science from St. Mary’s University, and his Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from Our Lady of the Lake University.


Dr. Hudspeth joined the faculty of St. Philip’s as an adjunct professor in 1975 and became a full-time instructor in 1978. He became chair of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department in 1992 and the Dean of Arts and Sciences in 2002. While serving as Dean, he continued to teach at St. Philip’s and Our Lady of the Lake University. In 2008, he returned to his first love, full-time teaching.


He is very active in the San Antonio Community. He served in 1992 as the Interim Chair of the Bexar County Democratic Party. In addition, he currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Voices for Children of San Antonio, a child advocacy agency and has served as the President of the Board of Directors of Any Baby Can of San Antonio, an agency that addresses issues facing families with children who have disabilities. He is a life member of Mt. Zion First Baptist Church where he serves as an assistant Sunday School Teacher, a Deacon, and the Chair of the Board of Trustees. He is a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and a Diamond Life Member of the NAACP. In November 2018, he was elected as President of the local Branch of the NAACP. Prior to becoming President, Dr. Hudspeth served as Chair of the Housing Committee of the San Antonio Branch. Dr. Hudspeth also currently serves as member of the NAACP Texas State Conference Executive Committee and Chair of the State Housing Committee.


The NAACP is in the DNA of Dr. Hudspeth as his father, Charles Hudspeth, Jr., served as the President of the San Antonio Branch in the 1970’s and 1980’s. His parents, Charles and Louise, served as the co-chairs of the Freedom Fund Dinner. Gregory and Dollie also served as co-chairs of the Freedom Fund Dinner in 2013 and 2014.


Dr. Gregory Hudspeth has been married to Dr. Elizabeth Dollie Hudspeth for more than fifty years. They have two sons, Gregory Jr., and Brandon. They are the proud grandparents of Mia Alejandra, Noah Allen, and Victoria Elizabeth Hudspeth.
